Maryland upholsteryTo serve our Baltimore, Maryland area customers, Caroline Center Upholstery begins by providing a comprehensive cost estimate for all the job components, including labor, fabric, and pickup/delivery.  We also provide estimated turnaround times for completion of the piece.

The work begins by skillfully removing all existing cover fabric and support materials so we can examine the framework. We analyze the springs and the joints. If repairs are needed, we do them at this point.

Stabilizing the frame is done with high quality glue, wooden dowels, staples, and clamps. If the piece is an antique we take special care to ensure that the antique value of the chair is not diminished by our repair work.

Maryland upholstery fabricSprings are retied using the old fashioned ‘8-way’ hand tying as this is the most durable repair for springs.  The old webbing that holds the springs is replaced with new webbing. We then begin the process of rebuilding the piece by adding new padding – cotton, foam, and Dacron.

Maryland upholsteryThe final fabric cover is then put on. First the upholstery fabric is measured for arms, backs, seats, sides and other surfaces. It is then carefully cut, leaving as little waste as possible.  The fabric pieces are then sewn together and attached to the frame with staples. To finish, any ornamental pieces such as trims, buttons, brass tacks, are attached and the piece is ready to go ‘home’.
